Joan has been a ceramic artist since 1969. She has recently completed tile installations for a veterinary hospital in New York City and has developed tiles with the company logo for "al benessere", a new line of aromatherapy products which debuted in fall 1999 at upscale stores in New York and Los Angeles.

She is a co-owner of Brooklyn Artisans Gallery, an artisan owned and operated fine crafts gallery in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn. Her work has been shown in museums and galleries; is in private and corporate collections in the US, Australia, and Europe; and is represented in the slide registries of The Tile Heritage Foundation and the New York City Percent for Art Program. Her tile designs have been commissioned for residential and commercial projects.

She has also been a ceramics teacher, given tile and other ceramics workshops, been an art show awards judge, written an article for Ceramics Monthly, and is listed in Who’s Who in the East (26th & 27th Edition), Who’s Who of American Women (21st Edition), and Strathmore’s Who’s Who Millenium Edition, 2000-2001.
